Our Centennial Projects

Check out details on our projects that we carry out as a Centennial project.

Camp Kawartha

Camp Kawartha has embarked on a plan to realize the vision of becoming a nationally recognized environmental education leadership centre.  The buildings will be focused on sustainable and regenerative architecture.  They will not only lend themselves to teachable moments for campers, students and visitors, but also serve as showpieces of what is possible in sustainable design to community members, architects, builders and developers.
With the help of a $100,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Peterborough, the first project is the replacement of the Health Centre, currently situated in a 1950s cabin.

Designed by the Endeavour Centre, the zero-carbon Health Centre will be of straw bale construction and feature the following design elements:

  • Zero net carbon emissions
  • Zero net energy use
  • Zero toxic construction materials
  • Zero construction landfill waste
  • Zero cost premium over a standard construction home of the same size
  • Carbon storage from the inclusion of carbon sequestering building material
  • Biophilic design, increasing biodiversity in and around the building.
This will be a unique example of what the next generation of sustainable architecture can look like.  The building itself is a message in four walls and the Rotary Club of Peterborough is honored to be a financial supporter of this project as part of long club history with Camp Kawartha.
